CHESTERFIELD, VA - Yesterday, Dominion Energy announced its decision to move the location of its new methane gas power plant to the site of its former coal plant at 500 Coxendale Road. This site is less than two miles south of the location originally proposed by the utility.

In response, Friends of Chesterfield Chair, Glen Besa issued this statement:

“This decision by Dominion Energy changes nothing. The same neighbors who have endured almost 80 years of coal pollution still face the prospect of an additional 30 to 40 years of toxic emissions from this dirty gas plant.

Hundreds of Chesterfield residents have repeatedly called on their Board of Supervisors to hold a public hearing and cast a vote on this polluting gas plant. Despite the clear and persistent demand from the community, the Board has remained silent. This inaction is not just a missed opportunity but a fundamental failure in their duty to represent and protect the health and well-being of their constituents.

The Board of Supervisors owe the residents of Chesterfield a hearing and a vote on this gas plant, and we will not rest until they fulfill this obligation.”
